In her weekly column, Jo Fox rounds up the news and views that might have flown under your radar.
This week, she asks: Should women who dress in activewear in public be sent to jail? Does every mum just want yoga and a smoothie? And should we all move to Iceland? (Quite possibly, it would seem.)
Is the prime activity of a mum yoga and smoothies? That's the impression Gina Zuk Gerber from Maryland, US, was worried kids would get when playing with Fisher Price's popular 'Little People' range — a toy line featuring characters that have jobs like firefighters, farmers, pilots and bus drivers.
But after noticing one particular toy — an SUV being driven by a mum figure dressed in pink and captioned "Time for yoga and a smoothie!" — Ms Zuk Gerber took to Facebook, saying: "It's 2016 people. Fisher Price needs to step it the f up and show women working in all types of fields and in leadership roles."
Her missive was quickly picked up by global media, and Fisher Price said it could have done better, telling the Huffington Post that "yoga and smoothies" was one of the phrases the toy utters when you press a button on the car.
"I spoke with the product/packaging copywriters who noted that we don't skew copy to any particular gender," a Fisher Price representative said.
